End of Key Stage 1 assessments

Teacher assessment is the main focus for end of KS1 assessment and reporting. It is carried out as part of teaching and learning.

 

Statutory Teacher Assessment Frameworks

Following the removal of teacher assessment levels, the Statutory Teacher Assessment Frameworks are used to support teachers in making robust and accurate judgements for pupils at the end of KS1.

 

The Statutory Teacher Assessment Frameworks set out the standard(s) a pupil will be assessed against at the end of the key stage for reading, writing, mathematics and science.  

 

National Curriculum Tests

Since 2016, test outcomes have no longer been reported using levels. Scaled scores are used instead. A new set of KS1 national curriculum tests replaces the previous tests and tasks.

Results

You will receive your child’s results with their Annual Report, at the end of the Summer Term. The reported result is a Teacher Assessment grade. Teachers will use the Statutory Teacher Assessment Frameworks and the test results to help them to reach an overall judgement of the standards your child has reached in English reading, English writing and mathematics. You will also receive a teacher assessment judgement for science, but there is no science test.

WORKING TOWARDS the ‘Nationally Expected Standard’ for a pupil at the end of Year 2

WORKING AT the ‘Nationally Expected Standard’ for a pupil at the end of Year 2

WORKING AT GREATER DEPTH within the ‘Nationally Expected Standard’ for a pupil at the end of Year 2

 

(There is also a grade for children not meeting the WORKING TOWARDS ‘Nationally Expected Standard’ category for a pupil at the end of Year 2)

 

Science

This will be reported as either WORKING AT the ‘Nationally Expected Standard’, or not meeting the ‘Nationally Expected Standard’

 

How can you help your child...

•First and foremost, support and reassure your child that there is nothing to worry about and that they should always just try their best. Praise and encourage! 

•Ensure your child has the best possible attendance at school. 

•Support your child with any home learning tasks and activities.

•Make sure your child has a good sleep and healthy breakfast every morning!
